Designer Series: Reading Tree Shaped Card

Hi crafty friends! I love the reading themed sets from the October release and had to make another card featuring Reading Tree!

I started by cutting out 3 arches using B2B Arches for the card front, inside panel, and back panel. To create the front panel, I cut out an arch for the window. I used Arch Shop to create the window frame from kraft cardstock and a woodgrain embossing folder. I lightly inked the arch with brown ink (Concord & 9th nutmeg). After gluing acetate over the opening, I glued on the outer arch. Then I glued on a hinge to the back of the card front (to create the hinge I scored a thin rectangle) and glued on another arch on the inside of the front panel to hide the hinge and all the glue. Tip: use dot runner adhesive to the thin middle panes to stick to the acetate.

For the inside panel, I masked off a floor and ink blended light brown ink (Concord & 9th wheat) and then stamped a woodgrain pattern with darker brown ink (Concord & 9th nutmeg). I stamped images from Reading Tree and Bookworm using light brown ink and masked off to create the overlapping look. After masking off all the images, I stamped the background with a light warm gray ink (Concord & 9th pebble). The sentiment is from Paola's Merry Wishes (Lawn Fawn chili pepper). I colored the images with Copic markers and popped up the little kids with thin foam squares.

I added a sentiment from Holiday Reading and image from Reading Tree to the back panel. To put everything together, I glued the second part of the hinge to the back of the inside panel. Finally, I glued the back panel over the hinge to hide it. I hope that made sense! Basically, I wanted to hide the hinge so I sandwiched it between layers of my card to cover it as best as possible.

To finish off the card, I added a bow from Take a Bow and layered two shades of red cardstock to add some dimension. Thank you so much for stopping by today! Happy crafting! ~Jenn
